Glazing technique sometimes feels as if I am holding my breath each time I lay down a color. But for now, I am happy with the results; hoping, as I move forward, I will get more comfortable and looser with the paint application.
The portrait of Baxter has made me want to paint more portraits of horses. The Young Man Holding a Flower is my effort to learn more about indirect painting, after having taken a class with John Wellington who is an expert of the technique. Tomorrow I will begin glazing over this underpainting.
I know, the hand beneath the beard is awkward. I have had someone ask me what is growing from his neck, but I still like this image with the hand. Maybe I will change it in a few days, but for now, the hand stays. (Or whatever that is growing out of his neck)
